Title Tag Optimization: FTFL (SEO & Online Marketing) Day #09

On day 9 our key topics were-

  1. Title Tag Optimization.
  2. Keyword Stuffing in Title
  3. Stop Keywords.

Today we've learned that any Google search result has three main parts; these are-
  1. Title.
  2. URL.
  3. Meta Data Description.

What is Title Tag Optimization?

Title Tag Optimization is an important part of SEO. It refers to the improvement of the title of a page; it can be a blog, a website or any page within the website or blog. Title tag optimization is needed to get our desired search engine results.

Some key factors of Title Tag Optimization:
  1. Title Tag should be within 55-60 characters.
  2. It’s better to have the main keywords in the first few words of the title.
  3. The use of ‘|’ (pipes) are always encouraged than the use of ‘,’ (comma) or ‘-’ (hyphen). Because titles with ‘|’ have more chance to come in the first place in Google search.
  4. Keep your important phrases short & simple. Leave the words that make it read like a sentence. But one thing must be ensured, the title should be clear and meaningful.
  5. Don’t duplicate title tags! They must be written distinctly for every page. Don’t mass replicate your title tags.
  6. Make it relevant. Title tag must be written to be descriptive of the content page. For example, the title tag for About Page would be- ‘About Us | Important Keywords | Company Name’
  7. Stop Keyword Stuffing in title. Never repeat your keywords in the title.

Note:  There are some tool online which can help us find the length to our title length by characters and pixels. In terms of characters it’s better to keep it between 55-60 but not more than 70 characters. In terms of pixel it must not exceed 512 pixels.

Keyword Stuffing in Title: It refers to the bad practice of putting keywords repeatedly in the title tag. Many believe it helps us to rank higher in Search Engine Result which in fact is a myth. So, it is suggested that we stop stuffing keywords in title, LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) could be a better option!
Keyword Stuffing could be just like that! Too much of it can spoil the whole recipe!

Stop Keywords: It is also related to Title Tag Optimization. It is one of the key factors that we avoid using stop words in the title if it’s not necessary. Stop words indicates those words that Google doesn't look for while searching. For example if we search with a title ‘I am looking for/searching for a job’ in the Google bar it will show results only with the keywords ‘job search’ / ‘looking job’ / ‘search job’ etc. Here ‘I’, ‘am’, ‘for’, ‘a’ are stop words.

Here goes the link to the list of STOP Keywords.

That was all for Day 9! Thanks! Have a great day! :)

SEO and Online Marketing : DAY TWO

We learnt a very important task this day. The ways to introduce oneself in online social community are discussed with vivid description and instances by our facilitator. We got a clear idea about how to brand myself and easily get the reach of search engine result page (SERP). A private blog or website is very essential in this connection. Beside this, opening account and provide personal information in different social networking sites can be very effective to make oneself a brand or renowned figure in virtual world.

Planning for a blog:
Before making a personal blog or website we need to go through a proper plan and target a particular audiences. Here comes the 5W’s idea, which includes -why, what, who, when and where. We must prepare all the answers of this five questions to make our site or blog effective. We must target a particular traffic for the blog. From where my target people are coming it is obvious to assess. Why people come to my blog, what types of information or product they can get I suggest earlier stage of starting a blog. A blog master should have a clear idea about the content according to the demand of audiences. Here we can take help from various analytic tools to find out a desired product or service for people. We can check and change the blog contents keeping pace with the demand from time to time to get better results.

Blog content:
A blog may provide items from different perspectives. It may share ideas, opinion, news, views, suggestion, analytics and what not? It may be a store of information regarding a particular product/services. It may reflects human nature and feelings, love, hope, vision and so on. There is no any defined idea about a blog content.
At the final stage we got a list of social networking sites and we were suggested to open account with detail information to make us a known entity when somebody search for it.

The list of those sites are-
Pinterest, Flickr, Instagram, About.me, Stumble Upon, Slide share, Youtube etc.
And beside these we opened our personal blogger blog to convey our presence in virtual world.

How to Use Heading Tags for SEO

Heading tags, as their name suggests, are used to differentiate the heading of a page from the rest of the content. These tags are also known to webmasters as HTML header tags, head tags, heading tags and SEO header tags. The most important heading tag is the h1 tag and least important is the h6 tag. In HTML coding the header tags from h1 to h6 form a hierarchy. This means that if you skip any of the tag numbers (ie. jump from 1 to 3) the heading structure will be broken, and this is not ideal for on-page SEO.
For example, if your site is introduced with a heading in h1, and a sub-heading in h3, the hierarchy will be broken, meaning the heading structure is not SEO-friendly. The coding should be something like what is shown below:
<h1>Main Heading</h1>
<h2>Secondary Heading 1</h2>
<h3>Sub-section of the secondary heading 1</h3>
<h2>Secondary Heading 2</h2>
<h3>Sub-section of the secondary heading 2</h3>

Advantages of Using Heading Tags:

The heading tag is used to represent different sections of web page content. It has an impact on both the SEO and usability of your site.
Header tags from an SEO point of view:
  • Relevancy: Search engine spiders check the relevancy of the header tag with the content associated with it.
  • Keyword Consistency: The search engine spiders check the keyword consistency between the header tags and other parts of the page.
  • The Importance of an h1 Tag: The h1 is the most important tag and it should never be skipped on a page. Search spiders pay attention to the words used in the h1 tag as it should contain a basic description of the page content, just as the page <title> does .
  • Enriched User Experience: Heading tags give the user a clear idea of what the page content is about. Search engines give much importance to user-experience on a site, meaning the presence of heading tags becomes an important component of SEO.
